Professor Marcus was born and raised in Charlotte, NC and has been a Dripping Springs resident since 2016. He started training BJJ in 2013 at Great Grappling in SC. He trained at JJ Machado Austin since its opening and is now a First Degree Black Belt. He has been teaching Jiu Jitsu for the past 6 years. Marcus and his wife, Laci, purchased JJ Machado Austin in October 2022 and started Stoic Jiu Jitsu.
Laci started Jiu Jitsu in 2017 at Triple Threat Jiu Jitsu before making the switch to JJ Machado Austin. Laci and her husband, Marcus, purchased JJ Machado Austin in October 2022 to create Stoic Jiu Jitsu. She earned her Black belt at Stoic Jiu Jitsu in 2024. She is also a Certified NRA Instructor.
I started training jiu jitsu in 2015 and fell in love with both the sport and the concept immediately. To me, jiu jitsu is just as much of a mental game as it is physical, being able to stay cool under pressure and think through the problem while being under constant attack. That principle easily transfers from the mat into everyday life. I began my journey at Kron Gracie Jiu Jitsu in West Monroe, LA, focusing on building the basics to an extreme degree. I've always admired Kronβs game: always looking to finish, and having the ability to shut down his opponents both mentally and physically with basic jiu jitsu by being solid in the fundamentals. Self-defense was and continues to be a driving factor for me, using those fundamentals to get to an advantageous point against a bigger opponent. In 2019, I added MMA training at KGJJ as an additional focus to further build self-defense concepts, as they complement each other perfectly. In September 2021, I moved to Austin and jumped head-first into the JJ Machado school, tying in a lot of the basic details Iβve learned into the more creative aspects of jiu jitsu. I earned my Black belt at Stoic Jiu Jitsu in 2024.
I have been training under Marcus since 2021 and began teaching kids classes in 2023. I am currently a Purple belt. I have a passion for both jiu jitsu and teaching. Learning and sharing knowledge to improve myself and others is my goal in everything I do and Jiu Jitsu is amazing in how it strengthens body, mind and soul. Grateful to be a part of such a great learning community at Stoic Jiu Jitsu.

Bryan grew up in Connecticut where he played lots of sports as a child but settled on football in high school. In 1997 he joined the Army and spent 4 years as an Infantryman in Fort Drum, NY. After the Army, Bryan attended the University of Connecticut where he majored in Biology and spent all his free time playing Rugby. After graduation he moved to NYC and after several friends recommended trying BJJ, Leif Babin finally convinced him to try it and promised that he would not dominate everyone in class on day one, which turned out to be very correct. Bryan began his BJJ journey at Renzo Gracie Queens, and then transitioned to Renzo Gracie's main academy (aka The Blue Basement) and began studying under John Danaher. After moving to Texas in 2020, Bryan trained with Marcus and Todd White and also trained with New Wave BJJ in Austin for about 1 year. Since 2022 Bryan has been training exclusively at Stoic BJJ under Marcus and Laci's tutelage. Bryan is currently a Stoic Brown belt.
